Why Fax At All?
“I have email, why do I even need fax?”
This question gets asked a lot, and it’s a valid question. Why do you need fax? There are some compelling arguments to keep fax capability in your office communication toolbox. Here are some of those arguments:
Reason 1: Fax is Ubiquitous.
It has been reported that there are over 100 million traditional fax machines installed in the United States. The ability to utilize that installed base could prove beneficial from time to time.
Reason 2: The Legal System Faxes.
If you want to transmit a legal document, you will most likely be asked to fax it. If the credibility of that document is important, fax is still the method of choice, second only to hand-delivery. The fax header is often used as evidence in court when determining the validity of a document and when attempting to piece together time-lines to unravel the chronology of a dispute.
Reason 3: Online Fax is Extending the Usefulness of Fax.
Most people appreciate the logic of having multiple ways to accomplish any given task. Although the traditional fax, tied to the PTSN phone line, is destined to disappear some time in the future, the usefulness of fax, with its ease of use and its validating time/date/sender header information will likely be around quite a bit longer. The development of ways to use the Internet to send and receive fax documents is breathing a breath of new life into the technology.
