Breakout Sessions for Four Work Groups:

There will be four concurrent breakout work groups. Three will cover the different aspects of the existing building regulatory and construction processes (pre-construction, during, and post-construction). The fourth group will look outside the box and discuss ways I.T. can transform the entire regulatory framework of the construction industry. Each group will be comprised of a mix of building regulators, construction industry, and I.T. industry. They will meet throughout the morning to identify, from their professional view: "How can I.T. both improve customer service and transform the regulatory process," "What needs to be done to facilitate greater development and use of I.T. products and services," and "What do I need to get done to make my job easier?"

Scribe: Terry Slade, Assistant Director, Kentucky Department of

Housing, Building & Construction

Workshop Session # 2: Developing An Action Agenda for a More Effective and Efficient Building Regulatory System through Innovative Uses of Information Technology

Attendees will assemble to function as a committee of the whole to discuss the solutions, etc., developed by the morning work groups and develop a consensus that will formulate the Forum’s final work product - An Action Agenda

2:00 PM - 3:30 PM – Discussion and Setting the Agenda - What Needs to be Done?

  • What are the common themes from work groups?
  • Taken as a whole, what I.T. approaches can be implemented (short-term, mid-term, long-term)?
  • What "theoretical" I.T. solutions can be developed to transform the current regulatory system?
  • How do the benefits become apparent?
