Listing Offers Building Departments Contact with Jurisdictions
Using Information Technology in
Building Codes Administration & Enforcement Programs

State and local building departments are under increasing pressure to provide timely and effective services to their citizens and construction industry. Building officials now have access to an updated listing of some of their colleagues who are using information technology to help improve their codes administration and enforcement programs.

The National Conference of States on Building Codes and Standards, Inc. (NCSBCS), with funding from the U. S. Department of Energy, has updated a portion of their website with such contact information. Click here for Alliance homepage.  The Listing of Jurisdictions Using Technology is the 8th item on the menu.  Each listed jurisdiction has a contact with email address and phone number, the software used for the various code administration/enforcement functions, and the funding mechanism for the purchase and maintenance of the I.T. program(s).

On this same menu page, you will find the recent NCSBCS report on Savings from the Application of Information Technology to Building Codes Administration and Enforcement Processes, model procurement requirements for information technology, and several other reports and materials jurisdictions may find useful when considering the application of I.T. to their programs.

NCSBCS is looking for additional building officials who are interested in having their jurisdiction included in the website listing. In addition, under a Department of Energy funded contract, NCSBCS and DOE are interested in acquiring available information from building departments on any documented energy savings being achieved in buildings when plans are reviewed and/or construction inspected using information technology such as DOE’s energy code software packages COMcheck and REScheck. If you can provide such data, please contact Carolyn Fitch (cfitch@ncsbcs.org or 703 437-0100 ext. 238).

NCSBCS was founded by the nation’s governors in 1967 to promote the development of an efficient, cooperative system of building regulations to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the public within the built environment. NCSBCS provides technical support to the National Governors Association under a 24-year-old executive branch agreement. Members of NCSBCS are state and local building officials and associations and individuals from the construction industry.
