WHY JOIN AND PARTICIPATE IN NCSBCS
IN 2005-2006?
NETWORK – CONTRIBUTE – LEARN
– GROW – SAVE
NCSBCS members include the chief building regulatory officials of
the states, local code officials from across the nation, construction
industry associations, private sector firms, academicians, federal
officials, information technology firms, and others interested in the
need to strengthen our nation’s building codes and public safety
system, enhancing both public safety and economic competitiveness.
Monthly NCSBCS Public and Private Sector "Important
Issues" conference calls, surveys, website communications tools
and the workshops and annual conference of the association affords you
the opportunity to network with your colleagues from the above
segments of the construction, information technology and public safety
community.
Membership in NCSBCS affords you the opportunity to join
standing and ad hoc committees, participate in conference calls, and
provide website survey responses to contribute your expertise and
knowledge to strengthening public safety in the built environment and
the economic competitiveness of your community and our nation in the
global economy.
The newest NCSBCS committee is the Information Technology Advisory
Subcommittee to the Regulatory Affairs Committee. Established in
response to a request from several software vendors, the new
subcommittee affords IT firms a venue in which they can discuss issues
relevant to the use of information technology by federal, state and
local building code enforcement programs, including work on pending
procurement requirements for interoperability of future hardware and
software used in this nation.
The Conference’s annual meeting, monthly "Important
Issues" conference calls for members; monthly Members
E-Bulletins, including its Legislative/Regulatory update section; and
NCSBCS’ International Academy for Professional Codes Administration
(the Academy) provide a wide variety of technical and administrative
information of immediate value to the nation’s construction and code
enforcement community, trade associations, information technology
firms and professional societies, academicians, students, and elected
officials regarding building codes administration and public safety.
Recent topics covered on the "Important Issues"
conference calls have included: Regulatory oversight of nightclubs and
other public occupancies in the wake of early 2003 disasters in
Chicago and West Warwick, RI; building department responses to each of
the federal homeland security alert levels; the ISO rating system and
the impact on state and local building department ratings caused by
delays in updating their building code.
NCSBCS members also have free online access to the Directory
of State and Local Building Codes and Regulations.

number of Conference members have noted that their firms have
benefited directly from jurisdictions adopting model streamlining
processes and procedures made available through the Conference.

training programs; publications, including the new 2004 Introduction
to Building Codes and Guide to Effective and Efficient Codes
